Mending Plate

The Nolan Structural Products Mending Plate is an engineered solution for restoring the structural capacity of cracked, split, or otherwise damaged wood floor joists and roof rafters. Each plate is manufactured from heavy-duty 11-gauge (approximately 0.120-inch-thick), 50 ksi galvanized steel and measures 48 inches long, allowing the plate to extend well beyond the damaged area and transfer loads into sound wood on each side. Plates are available in 5.5", 7.25", 9.25", and 11.25" depths to match standard nominal 2x6, 2x8, 2x10, and 2x12 framing. The system is designed for damaged areas up to 24 inches long; the damage may extend to any depth of the joist, including completely through the member.

The Mending Plate has been structurally evaluated for both bending and shear and is designed to restore the full structural capacity of the damaged framing member when installed in accordance with the provided instructions. It can be used to repair floor joists or roof rafters with spans and spacing permitted by typical prescriptive/code span tables, providing a practical alternative to removing the damaged member or installing a full-length sister joist. The galvanized steel construction provides long-term durability, while the full-depth plate reinforces the damaged member along its side.

Each Mending Plate Kit comes ready to install with the structural screws, nut driver, and drill bit required for pre-drilling the fastener holes.
