The Joist Repair Strap is designed to repair notched, drilled or damaged floor joists without needing to remove any plumbing/wiring which may go through the joist. Our product provides an affordable, alternative solution to sistering the joist in order to restore the integrity of the joist and promote safety. Each kit consists of a steel strap that is ideally screwed to the bottom of the floor joists. If you don’t have access to the bottom of the joist, our product may still work. The Joist Repair Kit is great for both homeowners, contractors, and DIYers as it includes everything needed to install. Once the strap is installed it will fully restore the strength of the floor joist. There is an engineered design report available by using the link above that can be provided to a Building Department, if required. The Design Report is stamped by certified Engineers in multiple States and has been accepted by Building Inspectors across the United States and Canada.
The lag screws included are 1/4" by 1, 1/2" and will protrude out about an 1/8" from the steel.
**Please Note: The kit will restore full joist strength on all nominal dimensional lumber floor joists that have been sized to national or state span table codes when the joists were installed**
After repairing three joists that had been notched, they were still bouncier than nearby joists that were not cut. Given the claim that this would restore the joist to full strength I had expected there to be no difference, particularly given the cost. I have another three joists that are notched and am debating returning my remaining straps. I tried to call twice to talk to someone, left two messages and haven't heard anything back.
We are sorry to hear that you feel our product did not meet your needs. They are engineered to restore full strength to the joist but not necessarily remove all bounce in the joist. The bounce in the joist may be caused by several other factors and not the notch in the joist. We do offer a product that reduces bouncy floors/joists which runs the entire length of the joist. That product would address both the notch and the bounce in the joist. If you want to provide us with the joist span, szie of joist, joist spaicing, photos of the joists and what is above the joists (i.e. bathroom, kitchen island) we can provide you with a recommendation. If you chose that route, you can return all joist repair kits. If not, you can certainly return your remaining items per our return policy. Good solution
Comes with driver bit and drill bits. Time will tell how it holds up. In my case i filled the notches with wood. Not sure if the calcs account for the type of layered /glued sheet construction of my beams, but theres a lot of screws to hold tension.

Great product
This product was just what I was looking for to address large notches that were cut out of joists to accommodate large can lights in my basement. I'm glad I was able to speak to Rich himself about my situation and he gave me confidence that these would restore strength back into my notched I joists. Nolan shipped out my order very quickly and the straps were very easy to install.
